The 2008 Mazda Mazda5's all-new front end (including fascia, grille, headlights and foglights) gives it a more aggressive yet still pleasant anime-character grin. The noticeable green cast to our test car's Golden Sand Metallic paint job — while surprising, given the lack of any hint of green in the paint's name — is attractive and just different enough to make it stand out in a sea of beige and silver family cars wherever we took it. New LED taillights give the 5 a cool high-tech look, in addition to being more energy efficient and long-lasting.

Faster, more powerful and even better handling, the only thing the Cayman hasn’t got over the Boxster is the convertible roof. So you better make sure you want the open-air experience over the better figures, as in every other way, the Cayman beats it. The tin-topped S has 10bhp more and 8lb ft more of torque than the Boxster S. Its top speed is 2mph higher, and it’s 0.1secs quicker to 60mph. I know those don’t sound like much, but to Porsche drivers those fractions are everything.

Saturn Astra XR Coupe: Performance

However, Saturn has tuned the Astra to maximize mpg, which, while a commendable goal, comes at the expense of performance. Even though the engine's specs are competitive, the engine feels sluggish off the line, and tall gear ratios make the hatch feel gutless. Heaven forbid you find yourself changing lanes in front of a car that's going faster than you expected; you just might find yourself on the receiving end of some less-than-friendly hand gestures. Then again, you might not notice, since you'll be uttering your own expletives as you stand on the throttle wondering why nothing's happening.
